I normally 2hrs are safe, but I always tryed to arrive Terminal 2.5 - 3 hrs ahead, when I travel international flight, Rarely you will see very long line on check-in for baggage and another long line on TSA. Personally I prefer waiting at the gate, instead missing flight. Young Park
Terminal 4 is the airport's largest terminal. Made up of eight linked blocks, it has a main central building and seven airside lounges. With more than 80 gates, the terminal serves passengers for Aeromexico, Air Canada, British Airways, Hawaiian Airlines, Southwest Airlines, US Airways / America West, US Airways / America West (Mesa Airlines), and Westjet.
Once you know where you are going it is simple. Great shopping area to enjoy and airport staff are friendly and helpful.
Best place to work #1Airline #Delta
This is the top of the line at JFK. Plenty of food options, including Shake Shack for tourists trying to get a final taste before leaving. It's one of the reasons why I'll be biased toward flying with Delta.
There's a whole mall in here, with dj's and art exhibitions
Amazing staff and TSA! Lost some baby items and they located it at security, held my items and shipped them. Super helpful and friendly! Good terminal for food and shipping
The terminal buses were efficient and clean. Except for some construction areas, we moved quickly to our gate. Due to the distances, anything less than 45 minutes between flights is cutting it close!
Very busy airport and very helpful staffs
Terminal 4: arrivals at the bottom has a tourist info counter on the RHS at the main hall. Very limited seating in the centre and toilets to the left. The floor above has the air train which connects the different airport terminals and also connects the airport to the public transport network. This floor has some seats which come in handy as there are wall sockets on pillars where you can charge your cell. (110V with the flat pins - can use a 220V charger with flat pin adaptor). No toilets on this floor. Floor above is for departures and has NO seats. Only seating here is at the boarding gates after all the checking is done. These seats have USB ports and 110V sockets but ensure they are working as many are faulty.
This is a review of departure and not arrival which was a positive experience. Generally, I totally avoid, as should you, JFK, and in fact all New York airports as ports of entry. Due to traffic in the area and weather conditions, it is one of the most commonly delayed airports in the country. Entering JFK from an international flight is called "hell on earth", and this is not just due to sour faced customs officials, but the long, very very long immigration process. Be warned, if you have a connecting flight, you need at least two hours to connect, maybe more. This is not an airport for the faint at heart.Departure, however, from Terminal 4 was fine. I have no idea why the port authority charge $8.50 for a short train ride from Jamaica Center to JFK. I suppose they do, because the can..
Looks very aged. Have to take a bus from other terminals no way to get from International terminal one excite to go outside a d walk. This is one of the worst airports in America, cant think of a worse one. Should have been rebuilt decades ago. Even worse then Legaurda which at least has some good food.
Can’t complain!
Very nice terminal with plenty of stuff to do. Lots of sit down restaurants and stores. If you have a long layover, I'd suggest to stop by at this terminal, especially if your next flight will be at Terminal 1. We landed here and we were having a hard time finding the sky train for other terminals. You'll need to go down with the escalator located under the elevators near Palm Bar & Grille.
As far as non-places go, JFK terminal 4 really takes the cake. Non descriptive in every way, you can hardly tell what city you are in which would be disturbing were it not an intentionally transitive space. The human conveyor belts are plentiful and make for a fun way to pass the time when your flight is delayed. Would come again.
Don’t worry about the transportation from ny downtown to JFK..Go Pennsylvania station, get the ticket paying $7.75. Get off at jamaica station and go upstairs, buy airtrain ticket paying $5 with your mta card. It took just 45 minutes from doubletree at south timesquare to jfk terminal 4.But but, security processing at jfk is a little bit slow. And after entering security zone, no smoking area!!
Go to the palm for a real drink or the wine bar for great wine
Love the airport. Not a big fan of the priority pass lounge.
The usual; a few food options (sushi, coffee, American, Dylan's Candy) magazine shops, and duty free. Security lines can be long as many international flights leave from this terminal. If you are at a gate that's far away; could be a 10-12 minute walk.
The security lines designed like a maze. Choose wisely or you'll wrap around 3 times merging with people just walking up
Highly aggressive security staff. The didn’t know what they were doing. They kept opening lanes and people joining the queue way behind me ended up getting through much quicker. Clear need for further staff training and management.
Inconsiderate TSA agents, be ready to have your neatly ironed and folded shirts unfolded and been thrown back in the suitcase literally like dirty laundry. Obviously they lack the empathy so I don’t see anything changing unless their management requires them to offer a less disruptive service.
I would never write a review for an airport terminal but Terminal 4 is dope. Two Shake Shacks, a Panda Express, and Hudson News for the regular airplane snack necessities. There are fewer things in life more beautiful than getting to the airport, worrying about what you’re going to eat, and turning the corner to the beautiful fast food landscape of Terminal 4.Also, this means you’re flying Delta (maybe not) which is usually a pretty solid experience. They have the Biscoff cookies on deck and if you’re international the wrap game is unstoppable.
Big, clean, great stores!!
TSA was very nice and friendly and also very courteous. It is a very large terminal the walk can be a little long. But it seems to be a pretty clean terminal. You have the Hudson news over there, as well as shake shack restaurant ,a another spot called jfk club house which is a pretty good spot to eat at.along with a seafood bar.and to top it off there is a buffalo wild wings, nice spot, over all a pretty good terminal
Great clean efficient airport. The express TSA customs service is good and saves time.
Terminal 1 Turkish Airlines. Quick check-in. Customs procedure fast and easy. The inside of the airport needs a good renovation though. It is not as modern as it should be. Come on, this is JFK!
Worst airport ever.... out of all the terminals this is by far the worst one. I am helping senior citizens that can’t carry their own luggage and im told i can't walk with them to drop off their luggage because only the passengers can pass the point of check-in. They don't speak english and understand what the processes are while in the check in process. It was so much easier the other way. I dont understand the changes that was done to this terminal. This terminal should either go back to the way it was or change the staff to be more respectful and understanding for these situations and have staff to help.
This terminal is where most international flights arrive. It's pretty new (only about 5 years now), and the outside waiting area is attractive (if you're waiting for your sweetheart, it's a good place for a photo). Inside the terminal, it's pretty easy to get around despite the size and there is a decent selection of places to eat (though not as good as it could be). Leaving the Terminal, the AirTrain is very close, or you can take a yellow cab (but you're better off with an Uber).
TSA not organized. One person said form one line, half way down someone else said form 2 which made the people we had to squeeze next to unhappy. One lady told me to keep my empty drink bottle to fill with water, lady at the bin area said to get rid of it. I put it in the bin anyway and it was gone when my items got down the conveyer to me. Get them on the same page. NO NEED TO BE RUDE. I was glad not to have to take my shoes off here at least. I had only been to terminal 2 before so I am very impressed with how many stores and restaurants there are in here.
Great place to walk an buy stuff while waiting for the plane
TSA Prechk is a nightmare and there are crowds no matter the time of day. Aim to get there early for your flight.
Everything good except the many homeless drunk!! Very sad!!
Be prepared to hear barked incoherent commands before you even get off the bridge from your plane. Wait time for immigration clearance "in excess of 60 minutes"!?! And it took 20 minutes after that to get someone to unstick a suitcase that had jammed on the shoot to the luggage carousel. Not at all a pleasant welcome home.
This is Delta airlines terminal. Very big and organized, clean. You finish faster your time waiting , they work so quickly.
JFK is okay. No real complaints other than birds flying in the airport and almost hitting people who are walking, but I understand that there isn't much they can do to stop that. I wish there were more food options.
I'm flying Delta via Terminal 4 again. There are some major changes this time. There are hand sanitizer dispensers everywhere. About half of the shops are closed. It wasn't very crowded at either 7 am or 8 pm. No line for TSA Pre. There are vending machines in the baggage drop area dispensing masks, hand sanitizer, etc. I would recommend avoiding these since they carry 100% or so markups. Hudson News, past the security checkpoint, sells similar items for less.
My go to terminal for Delta Airlines, Asiana Airlines, and a couple other airlines!
Very very long lines before customs, simply understaffed
Nice place and safe airport.
On arrival border officer was very polite, unlike my experience in the past. TSA Security lines designed like a maze and not very efficient. Just your standard departure area. Found a seat no problem.
Undoubtedly a world class terminal with adequate signage for proper navigation. There's a help desk where passengers can freely make enquiries. It can get a little bit crowded during rush hours and that makes parking quite a daunting task as well. There's a covered area which comes handy during bad weather.
To compare to many airports which I have been this one is very poor in all aspects. First of all it is dirty. With the number of passengers passing here it should be more active in cleaning. I think cleanness is 4 out of 10.Then the comfort : in departure area, terminal 4, there is not even one seat for the tired passengers. So looking for a seat / chair , I was early, I went to arrival section . There were little number of chairs all occupied with tired passengers probably for connecting flights. Old dirty chairs with passengers sleeping on them and some lying on the floor here and there , made me ask myself is this really one of the major cities of the world? The area smelled like hell. I couldn't tolarate sitting there . I was so happy when I could check in to my flight. At least after passing all the checking and securities you enter couple levels better .I hope the authorities read this and do some work there.
Can take time for Uber/Lyft to get to arrivals I'm traffic, esp when you see the >10 min wait time. Take my tip and call them to departures(go to level 2) and get out in a minute or two
My working place , I love the place. Net and clean. Busy terminal.Lots of food store. Duty-free store.chocolate store, dunkin , massage bar, you can get overthere . The tower is very close from terminal 4. You can also get the beautiful view. And most important thing Emirates deperture and arrival over there. Terminal 4 is different from the other terminal.
Very clean well designed.
Easy flow, safety, comfort, nice shopping, all you need in a terminal
WORST AIRPORT EVER! Luckily I arrived 3 hours early for my *domestic* flight, as it took 1.5 hours to stand in security, and then walk what felt like a mile to my gate. All security was rude, and I overheard them tell numerous people to "speak English because they are in America", and refused to find them someone who spoke Spanish! Additionally, for a "green" airport to have absolutely no vegan options in any of their restaurants is just outrageous. So much for catering to the people of the world. I will never ever in my life book a flight through this horrendous airport again.
There are allways areas of improvement... however this time things look better and on time.
Terrible experience with the TSA staff- No clear path for organization requires staff to heard you in their desired direction. If you don't understand their limited vocabulary, they insult you.
Nice airport with lots of shops and restaurants, but I wish there were more electric plugs!
Busy terminal but they got us through the TSA nightmare pretty quickly
